In this blog, I take a lot of notice into the chibis' anatomy and volume by an artist named Meago. She applies emphasis on clothing, and how they fit around the chibi to show fitted appearance to the chibi. Another example is the figure's placement of facial features. You want to draw two lines crossing over each other, curved in the direction your chibi is facing.
This can give off a sense of direction for your chibi. This also indicates where the character is focusing, and where the artist wants you to look, tracking their eyes. In this example, the eyes and mouth are positioned using the cross of lines on the face. This gives off a sense of direction, letting the viewers see what the chibi sees. The body and face are perfectly proportioned to give off the child-like chibi body.
These aspects form the chibi's body and form, and how they intermingle. This can further your understanding of the chibi anatomy and how to draw chibis with specific features. I also forgot to mention that chibi's are normally around 2 heads tall, or 3 total heads tall. If you were to draw a chibi, what features would yours have, and what size would it be?
In my own experience of drawing chibi, I've noticed that they're a bit abnormal from your average realistic person. Their proportions are really unique. From big heads and eyes to small body and clothes, but everything about it makes it that much more interesting. If I personally were to get back into chibi drawing I'd make a character with some type of magical power, because it's really exciting to see a certain trait or characteristic show through a fictional character. To me your post was very helpful when it came to different concepts of art so thank you!
ReplyDeleteHey Alida!
DeleteThanks for telling me how this has helped you! Certain traits and characteristics through chibi's make everything create emphasis around the chibi, since it is so small. Their powers are shown around them rather than in them, since they're so miniscule.
