Contouring in drawing

Contouring is a technique that will help stop the left side of your brain from functioning while you are drawing objects. This technique is very effective as a teaching method and it is meant to teach drawers how to use sight and touch while drawing.

"Nicolaides recommended that students imagine that they were touching the form as they drew. It seems more likely now that the method words because the left brain rejects the slow, meticulous , complex perceptions of spatial, relational information, thus allowing access to the right side processing" (Edwards 83).

An edge is the place where two things meet, and the shared edge is called the contour line this is a fundamental concept in art because it has to do with unity which is considered one of the most important principles in art. Contouring is essentially a more sophisticated way of saying outline.

Contouring is a simple concept that most people learn when they are younger, did you know about this technique of simply outlining your drawings first before you add any details?
