Piano Originality

What is the hardest part about playing piano?

I friend asked me this recently, and frankly, i didn't have much to say. After much thought, it came to me. For me, one of the hardest subjects in learning piano is being original.

I can play various songs for ever, but at the end of the day, the best part about music is its endless possibilities. What i mean is; it is an accomplishment to play famous songs, but there may be no better feeling then coming up with something yourself, regardless of the instrument. This is part of the reason why solos, in any song, mean a lot to the soloist. But truly being original is hard to come by.

After learning about proper posture, and the traits of a standard keyboard, Mr. Palmer has started to go in depth on playing music. He first introduced "Ode to Joy", a classical song written by Beethoven. After playing this, and going into depth on more classical music, it has occurred to me what Mr. Palmer is trying to get at.

Mr. Palmer has tried to get beginners the feel for music, and through time, they can apply to their own standards of music. As stated in the early stages of the book, "Music is an open door, feel free to walk through it" (Palmer 29). Upon reading these words, i was dumbfounded. The emotion, and motivation behind that quote really influenced me to try some stuff on my own. And so i did.

  1. Wow Jack that was super deep. That quote related to your post so well it's almost as if you created it! I understand what you're saying about music and originality, but how do you actually create your own original music?

  2. "Music is an open door, feel free to walk through it." I believe that this quote explains that music it's a bundle of emotions mix together. For example, the masterpieces of Beethoven, Mozart, and Bach are all full of emotions and it always tells a story. Not everybody can understand the story but they can understand the feeling of the music. Music is the beauty of expressing emotions and that is what makes it original.

  3. Jack that quote you had really went in depth about what you were trying to prove in this blog post. That's also really cool that you can mix, and make your own beats and even music. Is this a real career thing your looking into. Now to answer your question, that quote "Music is an open door, feel free to walk through". I think that means music can give someone something they really need to relax and just have a good time. It also basically says that anybody can mess with music and its something that can really effect someone's life at a deep level. That's what I feel it means
