Basic and Necessary Movements

In judo, you need to have the right stance and movements. Knowing what to do and the procedure of movements when in a match with someone is a key factor in the martial art.

In the first diagram is what i demonstrate as the right side grip which is one of the stances when preparing to fight someone. "The feet, in the natural stance, should be one step apart. The natural stance is the basic natural standing position, especially in a match" (Wilson 30). As you can see, I'm not too close and not too wide, just standing regular with shoulder width apart.

Bowing is essential during a match and is considered disrespectful if not done properly, or at all. There are two types of bowing and both are mandatory during a match. One of them is the kneeling bow and the other is the standing bow. "To stand, follow steps 3,2,1 in that order. When kneeling always drop to the left knee first. When standing, always raise the right knee first" (Wilson 29). Transitioning between bows is important and shouldn't be done quickly as there is a proper and professional way to do it.

With these basic and necessary movements, it'll help someone during a match and improve their stance. These movements should be done at all times especially at practice to get in the habit of it. If these were not performed correctly or not performed at all, there are consequences at tournaments such as disqualification .

This will be a wrap for my blog post but stay tuned for more!
