jumping origami frog

origami

Hello everyone! Today we will be making something fun easy and a little funky, this a middle level of difficulty but also can be fun to make, according to the book Michelle talks about “frogs signifying friendship” “by pressing on the hind legs the from will jump” a moving origami, how much cooler does that get! Let us get started!

1.     Fold the paper in half sideways to make a rectangle.
2.     Fold the corners down and unfold them right away, repeating this for both top corners of your rectangle.
3.     Flip the paper over and fold the top of the paper down at the spot where the diagonal creases meet. Unfold right away.
4.     Flip over once again, and fold the two edges toward you so they meet each other. The top of your rectangle will fold down to form a triangle
5.     Fold the bottom of the paper up so that its edge meets the bottom of your triangle. Fold the two corners of the triangle up to form the "front legs" of the frog.
6.     Fold the sides inward to meet at the center.
7.     Fold the bottom of the paper upward so its edge touches the bottom of the "legs," and unfold right away.
8.     Insert your fingers into the inside of the flaps, and pull the bottom corners outward to the sides, so that the bottom edge comes up to touch the bottom of the "legs."
9.     Fold the corners down so they meet at the bottom of the figure.
10.  Fold the bottom corners outward to form the "back legs" of the frog
11.  Create a zigzag fold at the bottom of the figure, folding the bottom half up and then the bottom quarterback down.
12.  All done

how far did you make your frog jump?

origami heart

origami

Today we will be doing a heart, this is defiantly easier than the ninja stars that we did, but is as fun and cute. This heart can be made into any size same or large, and makes for a really cute and personalized gift. All you will need is one pieces of paper of any color and size depending on your preference

1.     Start with a square piece of origami paper with white side up. If you only have regular 8.5x11 paper, follow these instructions to make it into a square sheet.2.     Fold the paper in half by folding the top corner to the bottom corner, and then unfold.3.     Fold the left corner to the right corner, and then unfold.4.      Fold the top corner to the center5.     Fold the bottom corner to the top edge.
6.      Fold the bottom left and right edges to the center crease.
7.      Fold the top and side corners back.
8.     Fold the bottom left and right edges to the center crease.9.     Fold the top and side corners back.

Thats all, and now you know how to make an origami heart! Easy, wasn't it? Would this make a great gift for mother day, father’s day, birthday and valentine’s day?

Origami

Origami
Welcome back! Today I will be doing my second post. After doing my simple ninja star I found a more complex ninja star in my book, if you want something more simple, go check out my first post! Today we will be doing an 8-sided ninja star! This is definitely a lot more complicated than the original ninja star but as the author puts it “origami is an art where you don’t use glue, tape or scissors, you don’t decorate it after it is complete, and all you have to have is a piece of paper to make something extraordinary”. So let’s get started and make something extraordinary!1   You will need to start off with different colored sticky notes (this will be much easier than normal paper)

2.     Take the Square Origami Paper and fold it twice diagonally and another two times to get the bisecting crease.
3.     Fold inwards, two of the top corners, using the middle crease to help you
4.     Overlap both the triangles and fold in the top crease in between the two folded triangles.
5.      Fold all the other papers in the same way
6.      Insert one paper unit in the other and lock it by folding the corners
7.     Insert all the paper units like this and lock them in the same way by folding the top corners of the triangle.
8.     You will get a complete circle in alternating colors.
9.     Holding the paper circle in one hand firmly, rotate the paper in push out the paper units.
10.  in the end you will get a pinwheel like design in the center and star like sharp spikes forming an easy paper Ninja Star.

How difficult was this one? can you make a 16 sided one?

Origami

origami

  1. Welcome to my blog! Here we will be learning a few simple, detailed Origami folds, origami is a Japanese art of folding paper into decorative shapes and figures. I have enjoyed doing origami since I was a little girl, it helps take my mind off things, but I really didn't know how to do any harder ones so I wanted to learn and get better. The book I used for this is called “Essential book of Origami” by Michael G. LaFosse, this is the a very basic form of origami that is very easy to follow, through the book Michael starts off with simple origami that leads into harder ones.
The first thing we are going to make is called a ninja star, this consist of many folds of same sizes paper. This can be a little challenging in the beginning and may take a few tries to get, (it took me a couple times to get it good) you can make then any size and color, but I would start with a medium size going too small or too large can be more difficult. I will be making them out of origami paper (if this is too hard, use sticky notes to start off with they keep their forms and stick to each other)
    1.     Start off with two pieces of paper, you can use two of the same, but two different colors will be much easier to see and follow the folds
    2.     Fold them in half (hot-dog style)
    3.     Fold both halves of each paper to meet into the center of the crease, this is called a cupboard fold
    4.     Now fold each paper in half along the vertical axis
    5.     Fold in half along the horizontal axis
    6.     Now fold the corners over into the middle with both pieces of paper
    7.     Now make a fold through the center
    8.     After this is done to both rotate one 90 degrees and place them on top of each other so they are perpendicular
    9.     This is where is can get tricky fold the vertical one into the horizontal one, if you have the correct folds you will have a little pocket to stick them in
    10.  Flip the star over and do the same thing, stick the little piece into the opposite color and your ninja star should be done!
